Eight people have been charged after police seized more than $2.8 million worth of illicit cannabis from a production site on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
The Tyendinaga Police Service began investigating the site in August 2026 and later received assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team.
Police executed a search warrant Sept. 9 with members of several OPP units and the Tyendinaga Police Service.
Officers seized about 5,560 cannabis plants valued at $2.78 million, along with 34 kilograms of cannabis shake worth about $34,000. Police also seized $1,880 in Canadian cash and 10 cellphones.
The eight accused range in age from 41 to 69 and are mostly from Scarborough, with one from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
Each faces charges of cultivating illicit cannabis and possessing cannabis for the purpose of distribution under the Cannabis Act.
The investigation remains ongoing.
