Friendly Manor will open its doors Friday for a community engagement day aimed at connecting residents, families and the wider community with its long-term care team.
Director of Nursing Kim Alkenbrack said the event will bring together residents, families, elected officials, health-care professionals and community partners to discuss ways to support local seniors.
The event will include a barbecue, music and outdoor activities, with Cowboy Mark lead singer of Ambush scheduled to perform from 1 to 2 p.m.
The event also gives residents and families a chance to meet community leaders and partners they may otherwise only see in the news.
Alkenbrack said last year’s gathering also highlighted transportation challenges for long-term care residents living in rural areas. Friendly Manor has worked to bring services such as vision testing, hearing clinics and X-rays into the home, but some medical appointments still require travel.
The community is welcome to attend Friday’s event and take part in the activities and barbecue.
