An inmate at Millhaven Institution has died while in custody.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says 27-year-old Emmanuel Calaguas died at the institution on Sept. 11.
Calaguas had been serving a life sentence since Nov. 4, 2024. CSC says further information about the cause of death is not available at this time. The coroner’s office has jurisdiction over determining the cause of death.
His next of kin have been notified.
As required in all cases involving the death of an inmate, CSC says police and the coroner have been notified.
The federal correctional agency will also review the circumstances surrounding Calaguas’s death.
