Local teachers and education workers are expected to take part in a province-wide day of action on Wednesday.
The day, organized by their unions, is to advocate for publicly funded education and educators are being encouraged to wear red or purple and be visible on social media and in their communities with their calls for better funding for education and better learning and working conditions.
Among the unions taking part are the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation, the unions representing elementary teachers in Ontario, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and others.
Together, the unions represent 275,000 workers in the province and the day of action comes as the five unions prepare for another round of central bargaining.
Teacher contracts expired at the end of August and talks have stalled as several issues have been referred to the Ontario Labour Relations Board.
