The Greater Napanee Fire Department is inviting the community to take part in its annual 9/11 Stair Climb at Planet Fitness on Friday.
This year marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.
Firefighter Ashley Arnold shared with myFM participants will be challenged to climb the equivalent of 110 floors, or 2,071 stairs, in memory of those who died.
The climb is open to everyone, with participants able to complete it at their own pace. Firefighters, EMS crews, police officers, teachers and members of the public have taken part in previous years.
Time slots run from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Planet Fitness Napanee’s General Manager Kim Traill says when you see the firefighters in their full gear climbing the stairs, it makes people remember the firefighters and victims who didn’t make it.
Arnold said the local event has developed a strong following.
Planet Fitness has hosted the event for seven years, donating equipment use. A donation table is set up at the gym to support the cause. Donations collected this year by Planet Fitness will support the fire department’s Christmas toy and food drive.
