Greater Napanee council has approved two proclamations recognizing Rail Safety Week and National Legion Week.
Rail Safety Week will be recognized from Sept. 21 to 27. The campaign, supported by CN and Operation Lifesaver Canada, aims to raise awareness about the dangers of railway crossings, trespassing and unsafe behaviour around trains.
Canada recorded 252 railway crossing and trespassing incidents in 2025, resulting in 69 avoidable deaths and 60 serious injuries.
Council also approved National Legion Week for Sept. 20 to 26. The week recognizes the Royal Canadian Legion’s work supporting veterans, their families and local communities, while helping maintain the tradition of Remembrance.
Both proclamations have been approved by council in previous years. No additional events or flag raisings were requested for either proclamation.
