Loyalist Township is warning residents about a fake letter circulating online that falsely claims the municipality is offering a $150 rebate to people affected by construction in Odessa.
The letter says property owners or long-term residents on Main Street and Bridge Street could qualify for the one-time payment because of delays and detours related to the County Road 2 reconstruction project.
It includes instructions for applying and asks residents to provide proof of residency. The letter also contains false or altered Township contact information.
Loyalist Township says the letter was not issued by the municipality.
Residents are being urged to get information only through official Township sources, including loyalist.ca, engage.loyalist.ca and the municipality’s official social media accounts.
The Township says it has reported the incident and is taking appropriate steps to address the false communication.
