Correctional Service Canada says staff seized a package containing contraband and unauthorized items at Millhaven Institution on Aug. 25.
The seized items included tobacco, marijuana, cannabis concentrate known as shatter, hash, cellphones and cellphone accessories. The estimated institutional value of the seizure is approximately $77,000.
Correctional Service Canada says staff vigilance helped lead to the seizure as part of ongoing efforts to prevent contraband from entering federal institutions.
The agency uses tools including ion scanners and detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.
Correctional Service Canada also works with police to address attempts to bring contraband into correctional facilities.
The agency operates an anonymous, toll-free security tip line at 1-866-780-3784 for information about activities that could threaten institutional safety.
