Like everyone else, small towns and municipalities will feel the pain from escalating tariffs on both sides of the border. Tariffs on imported goods can significantly increase municipal costs, reduce revenues, and disrupt supply chains.
Chair of the Rural Ontario Municipal Association Christa Lowry says she and other rural Ontario mayors are starting the discussions and trying to prepare themselves, but it’s still unclear how this is going to go.
Lowry says it’s important that municipalities plan for this.

According to a report from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, in terms of total dollars spent, the cost of electrical equipment, steel and diesel will have the greatest impact on Ontario towns due to their heavy reliance on US imports.
