Rubblization work on County Road 49 in Prince Edward County has been delayed because of work visa issues affecting the contractor’s ability to bring specialized equipment and crews into Canada.
The County says it and contractor R.W. Tomlinson Ltd. still plan to complete the rubblization and first two asphalt lifts this construction season. The final surface lift remains scheduled for 2027.
Rubblization involves breaking the existing concrete road into small pieces and leaving it in place to create a foundation for new asphalt. The work will start at County Road 15 and move south. At least one lane will remain open, with drivers facing delays of five to 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, culvert replacement work has advanced south of Bethesda Road after starting near the Bay of Quinte Skyway Bridge. Single-lane closures will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A temporary 60 km/h speed limit remains in effect throughout the construction zone.
