Prince Edward County OPP charged nine drivers with impaired driving-related offences during July, highlighting the ongoing danger of impaired driving on local roads.
The charges resulted from a combination of RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs, traffic stops, collision investigations, proactive patrols and tips from the public. Police say nine impaired drivers were removed from area roadways during the month.
The incidents occurred throughout Prince Edward County, including Picton, Wellington and Bloomfield. Those charged ranged in age from 25 to 62 and came from communities including Picton, Wellington, Prince Edward County, Ottawa, North York, Val-d’Or and South Carolina.
One July 24 investigation also resulted in several firearm-related charges after officers recovered a firearm from a vehicle.
Police say impaired driving remains a preventable threat to public safety and continue to encourage residents to report suspected impaired drivers.
The Prince Edward County OPP thanked members of the public whose reports helped launch several of the investigations. Officers say proactive enforcement and community cooperation remain key to keeping local roads safe. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is urged to call 911 immediately.
