Residents of all ages are invited to spend a day exploring the natural world during Discovery Day at Vanderwater Conservation Area.
The annual event, hosted by Quinte Conservation, will take place Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will feature a variety of educational activities, wildlife demonstrations and family-friendly attractions.
“We’re excited to welcome the community back to Discovery Day at Vanderwater for another year of outdoor fun and exploration,” Outreach and Stewardship Coordinator Lindsay Nash said in a release.
“With interactive activities, live reptiles and birds of prey, and hands-on experiences, there’s something for everyone to discover.”
Visitors will have an opportunity to see birds of prey up close during presentations by FalconEd and learn more about Ontario reptiles through interactive sessions with Reptilia.
Other activities will include exhibits focusing on invasive species, local watersheds and the role aquatic insects play in monitoring water quality. Participants will also have an opportunity to create nature-themed crafts.
The Madoc Lions Club will offer a barbecue and refreshments, with donations supporting the service club’s activities.
Quinte Conservation says Discovery Day is intended to strengthen public appreciation for the natural environment while promoting environmental stewardship.
“Quinte Conservation is committed to fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of our natural surroundings,” Nash said.
Discovery Day is free to attend, and parking will also be free. Organizers remind visitors that children must be accompanied by an adult.
