The Town of Greater Napanee has proclaimed September 2026 as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month to help raise awareness about the disease and encourage regular screening.
The proclamation request, submitted by Prostate Cancer BC and Prostate Cancer Support Canada, highlights that prostate cancer is the most common cancer affecting Canadian men, with one in eight men expected to be diagnosed.
As part of the awareness campaign, they’ve requested Springside Park be lit up in blue throughout September.
During Tuesday nights meeting, Councillor Bill Martin supported the proclamation and shared his own experience with prostate cancer, saying early testing played an important role in his health.
Martin encouraged men in their 40s, 50s and 60s to speak with their doctors.
