With one month to go before the 8th annual 88.7 myFM All Hands on Deck Food Drive, the Salvation Army Food Bank in Greater Napanee says donations are urgently needed as demand continues to rise during the summer.
The annual food drive takes place August 20th in support of the Salvation Army and Morningstar Mission food banks.
Abby Mills said the food bank has been especially busy while children are home from school, leaving many families needing more groceries.
Among the most-needed donations are condensed and ready-to-serve soups, pasta, pasta sauce and granola bars. Mills said the food bank has only two cases of granola bars left.
The Salvation Army is also preparing its annual backpack program for the new school year. While there are enough backpacks, Mills said more school supplies are needed.
Mills said rising grocery prices have made it harder to stretch every donation, forcing staff to make difficult decisions about what food to include in each hamper.
Food and school supply donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army office at 81 Dairy Ave. in Greater Napanee. Monetary donations made locally stay in the community and help families in Greater Napanee and Stone Mills Township.
