High school students can now ride County Transit for free across Prince Edward County.
The new program launched July 3 and allows students with a valid high school ID to travel at no cost on all County Transit services. Students from local schools and other communities are eligible. Children under 14 already ride free.
The initiative includes weekday Route 1 between Belleville, Bloomfield and Picton, the new Summer Weekend Connector routes, and the county’s on-demand transit service. Eligible students using specialized transit for people with disabilities are also included.
Students simply need to show their school ID when boarding, with alternate proof of age accepted until the end of September.
County officials say the program is designed to help young people reach summer jobs, recreation, and family and friends while encouraging greater independence.
The initiative is funded in part through the Municipal Accommodation Tax, with additional support from community partners, including sponsor Prinzen Ford.
