The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings have broken ground on a new triplex in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory that will provide homes for three families.
The project is a partnership between the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings. It includes three fully accessible two-bedroom homes designed to be net-zero energy-ready and continues housing development on Flat Street.
Funding of about $985,719 comes from Indigenous Services Canada Housing Gaps program. The total investment of $2.838 million supports additional tiny homes bringing the project to ten units in total.
Habitat for Humanity says this is its second build with MBQ totalling five homes and supporting safe affordable housing for Indigenous families in the community.
Work is part of ongoing housing expansion on the territory with long-term sustainability goals in mind.
Construction is expected to begin in July 2026 and finish in December 2026.
