Longtime teacher, karate instructor and volunteer Brian Lowry has been named Greater Napanee’s 2026 Senior of the Year, recognizing decades of service that have touched generations of local residents.
The award was presented during Tuesday night’s council meeting, where Mayor Terry Richardson praised Lowry’s lifelong commitment to the community.
Lowry spent much of his career as an elementary school teacher while also building the Napanee Karate Club into a community institution over more than 35 years. He has also volunteered through his church, taught women’s self-defence classes and helped neighbours by delivering groceries, mail and other necessities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Deputy Mayor Brian Calver thanked Lowry for the influence he has had on local families.
Accepting the honour, Lowry credited his family and friends for his success and reflected on more than six decades in the community.
Lowry, who moved to Napanee more than 60 years ago, said he still has more to give.
