A major drug and firearms investigation by the Belleville Police Service has resulted in eight arrests and the seizure of large quantities of drugs, weapons, ammunition, and cash.
Police say officers from the Intelligence and Street Crime Unit, with assistance from the K9 Unit, Emergency Response Unit, and the Ontario Provincial Police’s OCEB East team, carried out a series of vehicle stops and search warrants on June 15 and 16.
Investigators seized more than 2.3 kilograms of fentanyl, over 470 grams of cocaine, methamphetamine, hydromorphone, nitazene pills, Xanax, oxycodone, and other drugs. Officers also recovered several firearms, including loaded handguns, a short rifle, ammunition, magazines, a suppressor, and more than $27,000 in cash.
One of the firearms was found in a hidden compartment with the help of police service dog Bax.
Among those charged are two Oshawa men, ages 26 and 28, and six Belleville-area residents. Several of the accused were held for bail hearings, while others were released with future court dates.
The charges include drug trafficking, firearms offences, proceeds of crime, and probation-related violations. The investigation remains one of the largest drug and firearm seizures announced by Belleville police this year.
