Residents across Lennox and Addington County may notice roadside spraying activity over the coming months as the County begins its annual weed control program.
Wagar and Corput Weed Control Inc. has been contracted to apply herbicides to control noxious weeds along municipal road allowances and manage vegetation around guardrails in Greater Napanee, Loyalist Township and Stone Mills Township.
The program is scheduled to begin June 4 and continue through Oct. 31, weather permitting.
According to the County, the work is permitted under the Public Works Exception of Ontario’s Cosmetic Pesticides Ban and is intended to support public health and safety.
Several herbicides will be used during the program, including products containing glyphosate, imazapyr, aminopyralid and metsulfuron-methyl.
The County says certain areas will not be sprayed, including privately maintained roadside lawns, locations near surface water and freshwater habitats, and properties where landowners have requested exclusion.
Residents can find maps and roadway lists on the County website and may register to opt out of spraying along their property frontage.
