An inmate serving a life sentence at Millhaven Institution in Bath has died while in federal custody.
The Correctional Service Canada (CSC) announced Monday that 52-year-old Michael Clairoux died on May 29, 2026. No cause of death has been released.
According to the agency, Clairoux had been serving a life sentence since Jan. 9, 2025. CSC confirmed he was convicted of first-degree murder in a Perth court in January 2025.
The Kingstonist reports at the time indicated, Clairoux was one of two people convicted in the 2020 murder of a Beckwith Township man.
CSC said Clairoux’s next of kin have been notified.
As required in all inmate deaths, the federal correctional agency will review the circumstances surrounding the case. Police and the coroner have also been notified in accordance with CSC policy.
