Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is a registered charity operating in Ontario for more than 150 years. They focus on caring for animals and helping them find loving forever homes.
Animals cared for include cats, dogs, puppies, kittens, and small animals such as guinea pigs and rabbits. Staff work to keep animals healthy while preparing them for adoption.
The Lennox and Addington branch of the Ontario SPCA is asking the community to help as kitten season increases the demand for foster families and volunteers.
Sarah Vanderveer said the organization is seeing many young kittens come into its care during the busy spring and summer months, so they are always looking for foster families. Many kittens arriving at the centre are under eight weeks old and need temporary homes before they are ready for adoption.
The local animal centre is also promoting its Spring Adoption Event taking place Friday and Saturday. The event is focusing on large breed dogs, which are often slower to be adopted because of their size. Adoption fees for large breed dogs are reduced by 50 per cent during the promotion.
The Ontario SPCA is also always recruiting volunteer by helping at events, driving animals to appointments, or assisting inside the centre.
