The L&A Animal Hospital is reminding local pet owners that preventative care can play a major role in helping pets live longer and healthier lives.
During a recent interview, Christina, lead client service representative and Registered Veterinary Technician at Lennox & Addington Animal Hospital, said many common pet health problems can be prevented with regular veterinary care.
“We provide preventative care for your pets like vaccinations, annual exams, preventative blood work and parasite prevention,” Christina said.
She said parasite prevention is especially important during warmer months because ticks and mosquitoes can spread illnesses such as Lyme disease and heartworm.
The hospital has also launched a new Pet Health Club program aimed at helping pet owners manage the cost of veterinary care. The membership program includes exams, vaccinations, blood work, urine and fecal testing, along with discounts on food, parasite prevention and dental procedures.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for people to be able to get the services that are provided within that,” Christina said.
During the interview, Christina also addressed several common myths about pet health, including the belief that dental disease only causes bad breath.
She explained that untreated dental problems can lead to pain, infection and other health complications. The clinic offers dental cleanings, x-rays and extractions when needed.
Christina also warned against assuming grain-free diets are always healthier for pets.
