Greater Napanee council has approved two awareness proclamations focused on health and public service initiatives during its May 12 meeting.
Council officially declared May 12 as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in the community following a request from the Fibromyalgia Association of Canada. The organization is marking its fifth annual “Light Up for Fibromyalgia” campaign across the country.
Fibromyalgia affects more than two million Canadians and can cause chronic pain, severe fatigue and cognitive difficulties. There is currently no known cause or cure.
Council also proclaimed June 2026 as Stroke and Aphasia Awareness Month.
The proclamation highlights the importance of recognizing stroke warning signs and supporting people living with aphasia, a communication disorder that affects many stroke survivors.
Both proclamations were previously approved by council in years past.
