Drivers travelling Highway 401 between Kingston and Napanee can expect delays throughout May as geotechnical investigations take place at several underpass structures.
Loyalist Township has shared the work is being completed by Thurber Engineering Ltd. on behalf of AECOM and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.
The investigations are part of the Highway 401 Preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment. The study is examining future transportation needs, including bridge and culvert rehabilitation, interchange planning, and possible future widening of Highway 401 from six to eight lanes.
Lane closures with flaggers will occur daily during scheduled work at the Sharpe Road bridge from May 8 to 12, and the Switzerville Road bridge from May 15 to 19.
Officials say the work schedule could change because of weather conditions.
