As Mental Health Week shines a spotlight on local services, Parsons Therapy is gaining attention for its unique approach to counselling for men and couples.
Founder Brad Parsons says his practice focuses on “blue-collar therapy,” offering straightforward, relatable support for people who may not feel comfortable in traditional settings. Parsons draws from his own life experience, which includes working in construction, factories, and corrections, along with facing personal mental health struggles.
Parsons said his past, including witnessing a fatal accident and struggling with substance use, pushed him to seek help and eventually return to school. After completing a social service worker program, he discovered a passion for helping others and launched his own practice.
The service has quickly grown, with clients coming from across Ontario, including factory workers and first responders. Parsons believes his background helps build trust with those who may otherwise avoid therapy.
He noted that many of his clients struggle with communication, especially men who were never taught how to express emotions in a healthy way.
Parsons also works to create a welcoming environment for new clients, many of whom are hesitant to reach out.
