Construction is officially underway on a new St. Gregory Catholic School in Picton.
The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board held a groundbreaking ceremony, welcoming students, staff, local officials and community members to mark the start of the project.
The new school, located on Talbot Street, is part of a $24.5-million investment approved by the Ministry of Education earlier this year. The board says the project will support the growing community and provide a modern learning environment for students.
Plans include space for 354 elementary students, along with 15 learning studios and five learning commons designed for collaborative education.
During construction, students and staff will continue learning at the current school on Owens Street.
Officials say the new building will serve as both a school and a community hub for years to come.
