Town officials in Greater Napanee say a long-running enforcement case at 1388 Bridge Street has reached a court-ordered deadline after years of safety concerns.
The town says the property has been visited many times by fire, bylaw and public works staff due to unsafe conditions, including people living in trailers and cinder block structures.
CAO Matthew Grant noted the property is unfit and unsafe for people to live.
He shared they have been to that address on many occasions, noting the case has involved multiple inspections and meetings over several years.
The injunction requires the owner to clear all trailers form the property, obtain permits for the Quonset hut and cinder block sheds or remove them, remove all garbage refuse and construction materials, and cease all occupation or residing in the trailers or cinder block shed by that date. by June 1, or the town can enter June 2 and complete cleanup at the owner’s expense.
Council approved the recommendations to notify the property owner, prepare for enforcement, and allow staff to hire contractors using a simplified three-quote process instead of a full request for proposals due to time limits.
