The Government of Ontario is expanding where alcohol can be consumed in Ontario Parks, giving adults more flexibility as the 2026 season begins.
Under the new rules, alcohol is no longer limited to individual campsites. Adults aged 19 and older can now drink responsibly in permitted areas such as picnic spots, beaches and other day-use spaces in parks that are open and staffed.
The change was announced by the Ministry of the Environment Conservation and Parks and is aimed at improving visitor experience while supporting tourism and local economies.
Officials say existing laws still apply. Public intoxication, underage drinking, and having open alcohol in vehicles or boats remain prohibited.
Some areas will stay alcohol-free, with clear signage in place. Park staff will continue enforcing rules to ensure parks remain safe, family-friendly, and enjoyable for all visitors this summer.
