Mayors in Greater Napanee and Loyalist Township say Ontario’s latest budget brings opportunity, but also highlights ongoing infrastructure and cost pressures.
Greater Napanee Mayor Terry Richardson welcomed increased provincial spending, especially for infrastructure and health care.
Richardson pointed to funding for water systems and recreation as key wins for the growing municipality. He said local projects, including upgrades tied to Centre Street, are already benefiting, with results expected in 2027.
He also stressed the importance of continued investment in roads, noting the town’s aging layout and rising traffic.
In Loyalist Township, Mayor Jim Hegadorn said the budget does not include a single major item directly impacting the municipality, but several programs could help over time.
Hegadorn also noted past success with fire protection grants and said expanded funding may continue to support local services. However, he flagged ongoing concerns about rising policing costs and the need for fairer cost-sharing.
Both mayors agreed broader investments in health care and housing across Ontario are positive for residents.
