The Town of Deseronto has approved its 2026 municipal budget, focusing on infrastructure upgrades, community services, and long-term planning.
The budget includes investments in road resurfacing, park improvements, and upgrades to the local fire station. Funding will also support the Deseronto Public Library, community events, and core municipal services such as public works and administration.
Water and wastewater projects are also a priority, including upgrades to the Mill Street–Maple Avenue pumping station and contributions toward a future water tower replacement.
The total budget is set at $3.9 million, with $1.69 million coming from residential taxes. The plan includes a 3.15 per cent overall tax increase. For a home assessed at $145,000, this means an increase of about $97.50 per year.
Council has also approved a 6.6 per cent increase to water and sewer rates starting July 1.
When asked to comment on the budget, Mayor Johnston stated:
“With the current economic pressures facing us all, Council knew the 2026 Municipal Budget process was going to be challenging. As part of the budget process, Council focused on establishing a reasonable tax rate while addressing both the operations, and long-term planning of our community.
The Town of Deseronto is committed to providing strong municipal services, supporting community development, and investing in critical infrastructure. After many meetings and collaborative discussions, Council believe the 2026 budget supports the current needs of the community while planning for Deseronto’s future.”
