The Town of Greater Napanee is updating its fire protection agreement with the Town of Deseronto to improve emergency response times in parts of its western service area.
At their recent town council meeting, Fire Chief Shawn Armstrong said the change would allow both departments to respond at the same time to certain calls instead of waiting for a formal request for assistance.
The update focuses on areas west of County Road 41 and near the Friendly Manor long-term care home, where the closest available crews could be dispatched immediately, regardless of municipal boundaries.
The revised agreement also formalizes equipment sharing between the two fire services, including support from Napanee’s newest aerial truck when needed in Deseronto.
Officials say the change does not add new costs and is considered an operational update to the existing 2024–2027 agreement. Council approved the amendment and authorized staff to finalize it.
