The Limestone District School Board says a Grade 8 student has died after a medical emergency at Bath Public School earlier this month.
In a statement issued to myFM, the board said the incident happened on March 9, 2026. “School staff responded to support the student and contacted emergency services. Emergency services arrived and transported the student to hospital,” they shared.
The board confirmed the student died in hospital on March 15.
LDSB officials say the loss has deeply affected the school community. The board extended condolences to the student’s family, friends, classmates and staff.
The board says it is focused on supporting those impacted while respecting the family’s privacy. “Counselling and mental health resources have been made available to all those affected.”
The incident is now under investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police.
OPP Sergeant Erin Cranton confirmed with myFM “officers responded to Bath Public school on March 9, 2026, for a medical emergency.
It is now a death investigation involving a child.”
The school board says it is cooperating fully but will not release more details at this time to avoid interfering with the investigation. The OPP also shared “no further details will be released at this time.”
The cause of the medical emergency has not been shared publicly.
