A charity hockey game between the Napanee District Secondary School Hawks and Kingston Police drew a strong crowd and raised more than $2,200 for local charities.
The second annual game saw the Hawks defeat the police team 7–4, preventing officers from repeating last year’s win.
Despite the loss, Kingston Police’s Shawn Birney said the event was a success for the students and the community.
The game raised just over $2,200, which will be split between the Lennox and Addington OSPCA and the Morningstar Mission. Both Morningstar Executive Director Kevin Alkenbrack and L&A OSPCA Manager Becky Harvey were in attendance, and were very pleased by the support from both teams and the community.
The OSPCA shared, “The hockey game between NDSS and the OPP is such an exciting event and a great way to bring the community together for two great causes! We are always so thankful for any and all support from our community, the support makes such a positive impact on animals in need in our community!! A huge thank you to all that came out to watch, the players, the volunteers and organizers!”
Carter Slaven said the NDSS team was very pleased with the win, and are proud to help these local charities.
As he is graduating this year, he hopes the younger students will carry on the tradition.
