Premier Doug Ford is defending changes to Ontario’s student financial aid program that will shift more support toward loans instead of grants.
Starting this fall, students will receive a maximum of 25 per cent of OSAP funding as grants.
The move follows a $6.4 billion funding boost to colleges and universities and the end of a seven-year tuition freeze.
He said he has also had several calls with students since changes were made – and he spoke to reporters about some of the concerns HE has shared with them as they expressed THEIR concerns over the changes.
The province will reduce grant funding and rely more heavily on repayable loans beginning this fall while universities and colleges will also be allowed to raise tuition by up to two per cent annually for the next three years.
