Environment Canada has issued a yellow warning for very cold temperatures affecting Greater Napanee and the surrounding area, with dangerous wind chills expected to approach minus 30. The coldest conditions are forecast to develop tonight and persist into Saturday morning, with similar wind chills possibly returning Saturday night into Sunday.
Extreme cold poses health risks for everyone, particularly young children, seniors, people with chronic illnesses, outdoor workers, and those without adequate shelter. Health officials warn residents to watch for symptoms of cold-related illness, including numbness, muscle pain, chest pain, shortness of breath, and changes in skin colour on fingers and toes.
Residents are urged to check on vulnerable neighbours and family members, limit time outdoors, and keep emergency supplies such as blankets and jumper cables in vehicles.
