Ontario’s police watchdog has launched an investigation following an arrest in Loyalist Township. The province’s Special Investigations Unit says it has invoked its mandate after a man claimed he was injured during an interaction with police.
Lennox and Addington County OPP say officers were called shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, for a report of an unwanted person causing a disturbance. Police located a man in the area and arrested him. The man was charged with being intoxicated in a public place.
At the time of the arrest, the accused told officers he had been injured. The OPP notified the SIU, but the watchdog initially chose not to investigate. Police say they were informed on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, that the SIU has now decided to step in.
