Tri-Board Student Transportation Services has cancelled all school bus and taxi transportation today due to heavy snowfall in the listening area. All Algonquin Lakeshore and Catholic District School Board Schools and sites are CLOSED today due to inclement weather as well. All schools have been canceled with the Limestone District School Board with the exception of North Addington Education Centre, Granite Ridge Education Centre, Land O Lakes Public School and Clarendon Central. As always, the safety of our students, staff, and families is our priority. Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Warning for snowfall, with 20 to 35 centimetres expected and peak snowfall rates of 2 to 6 cm per hour.
Snowfall, at times heavy, has caused reduced visibility and local blowing snow, particularly in exposed areas where northeasterly winds gust 40 to 50 km/h. Snow is expected to taper to light snow or flurries through the morning, but roads and walkways remain slippery and challenging to navigate.
Authorities advise residents to allow extra travel time, take frequent breaks, and exercise caution when clearing snow to prevent injury. Commuters should be prepared for hazardous winter conditions, maintain safe speeds, and plan ahead. Tri-Board and local officials emphasize public safety and encourage residents to stay updated on weather conditions throughout the day.
