Tri-Board transportation has cancelled some school bus service today in Centre Hastings, Belleville & Quinte West, Prince Edward County, Central and South Lennox & Addington, South Frontenac, and Kingston area weather zones due to expected lake-effect snow squalls.
Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Warning for the region, forecasting heavy snow, blowing snow, and near-zero visibility at times, with local accumulations of 10 to 20 centimetres. Westerly winds gusting up to 70 km/h this afternoon will further reduce visibility, creating hazardous conditions on Highway 401 and secondary roads.
Officials warn that travel may deteriorate quickly and urge motorists to exercise caution, allow extra time, and monitor local weather updates. Snow squalls are expected to move out by this evening, but drifting snow may still cause disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities. Safety remains the top priority.
