Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue has lifted its partial burn ban, effective immediately, allowing all open-air burning once again.
Residents must still have a valid burn permit, which is required for any outdoor fire. Permits expire at the end of each calendar year and must be activated before use, either by phone or online.
Interim Fire Chief Tim Kraemer is reminding residents that property owners are responsible for controlling their fires. If a fire gets out of control, the property owner will be responsible for the costs of suppression.
Officials are urging people not to use accelerants to start fires, recommending paper and dry kindling instead. Fires must always be supervised, and smoke should not impact neighbours.
The County also recommends keeping tools such as water, a hose, or a shovel nearby. Burn status updates and permit activation are available at pec.burnpermits.com or 1-833-376-1011.
