It wasn’t the results the Raiders were hoping for, heading into week three of the regular season undefeated in four games.
Friday night the Napanee Raiders hosted the Lakefield Chiefs. The Chiefs opened the scoring with a 2-0 lead in the first. Raiders’ Jay Dalgleish scored first for the Raiders, with an assist by Kanellos and Galiah. 20-seconds later, Lakefield would score their third of the night. They’d find the back of the net twice more in the period for a 4-1 Lakefield lead. Within the first minute of the third period, Andrew Carr scored for the Raiders on the Power Play, with an assist by Williams and Barnes. Lakefield then scored their fifth of the night. Carr would answer that with an unassisted goal with 9-minutes to go in the game. The Chief would manage to score once more for a 6-3 Lakefield win. Raiders goalie Jacob Brown made 37 saves on 43 shots on goal.
Sunday afternoon, the Raiders made the trip to play the Trent Hills Thunder. The Thunder quickly struck, scoring their first goal 17-seconds into the first period. To even the score, Raiders’ Andrew Carr scored short handed with an assist by Williams to tie the game. Less than a minute later Trent Hills would score once again to regain their lead, 2-1. Nearing the half way mark of the second period, the Thunder would score their third of the night. Later in the period, Raiders’ Jay Dalgleish scored with an assist by Cranley to bring the Raiders within one goal. But it was then a scoreless third period, leading to a 3-2 Trent Hills win. Raiders goalie Denholm Blair made 25 saves on 28 shots on goal.
This is is the Thunder’s first win over Napanee in history. Prior to becoming the Thunder, the team hadn’t beat the Napanee Raiders since January 23, 2016, when the Campbellford Rebels beat Napanee 4-3 in overtime in Campbellford.
The Napanee Raiders are tied for first place in the East Tod Division standings with a 4-2 record and 8 points.
The Raiders are back in action Thursday, October 2nd, when they’re in Picton to play the Pirates at 7:30pm. This is their only game of the week. There will be no home game Friday night.
