The Town of Deseronto is creating a lasting tribute to local veterans with a new commemorative crosswalk on Main Street.
Council approved the project as part of the 2025 capital budget, with upgrades to include enhanced lighting for safety and visibility. The crosswalk is located between the Deseronto Post Office and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 280, a spot chosen to symbolize the community’s strong ties to remembrance.
The project began earlier this year and is expected to be finished in time for National Legion Week, running September 21 to 27. Once complete, the crossover will serve as a daily reminder of the service and sacrifice of Canada’s veterans, especially those who gave their lives for freedom.
The town is also using the occasion to recognize Legion Branch 280 for its ongoing commitment to remembrance and its work in ensuring future generations never forget the cost of freedom.
