A fire that tore through a historic building on Main Street in Deseronto has resulted in criminal charges against two youths.
On Monday, September 8, 2025, shortly after 6 p.m., the Lennox and Addington County Ontario Provincial Police were called to a commercial structure fire. The former Canada Optical and flea market building was fully engulfed when officers arrived.
After an investigation, police charged two youths, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They face joint charges of arson, break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, and mischief for destroying or damaging property.
Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Youth Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date.
