Mental health is taking centre stage this month in our listening area, especially as we hit the lowpoint of winter.
Dr. Linna Li, Deputy Medical Officer of Health for South East Health Unit, and Gwendy Lapp, a mental health promoter, are urging communities to start meaningful conversations.
Dr. Li highlighted the growing focus on mental health in public health, dealing with not only treatment, but promotion and education too.
When it comes to youth, the doctor says small acts, like greeting them with a simple “hello,” can make a big difference, adding it shows teens they are seen, they matter, and they’re not invisible.
Lapp encouraged adults to foster good habits in youth, like enjoying nature, getting enough sleep, and spending time with others.
She says Every small habit builds positive mental health over time.
Dr. Li Parents are key players who set the standards and examples for their kids.
