Lennox and Addington County Council met last week and discussed the development of two new libraries in Amherstview and Napanee. The initiative aims to enhance community resources while supporting the region’s 2025 strategic capital and operating budget plans.
Stephen Paul, Director of Community and Development Services, presented a detailed report on the proposed libraries. The Amherstview library is planned for the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre’s northwest corner. This two-story, 1850 m² facility is estimated to cost $12.1 million, with additional expenses, including a $844,490.40 mortgage and $246,000 in annual operating costs.
For Napanee, two potential locations were evaluated: the Court House Campus and a downtown site. This library will span 1900–2000 m² over two floors, with estimated construction costs of $12.7 million. Other expenses include a $886,365.96 mortgage and $255,000 in annual operating costs.
The report provided a high-level overview of these projects, aiming to assist the council with budget preparations and future strategic planning. While no immediate decisions were made, the council received the report for consideration, marking a significant step forward for these community investments.
