Kingston has opened a large number of viewing areas including a concert event at Grass Creek Park for Monday’s solar eclipse.
President of the Kingston centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Malcolm Park tells us if you’re still looking for eclipse viewing gear – seek out a reputable distributor.
You can see the list of distributors at https://kingston.rasc.ca/.
Park says the alternative to purchasing glasses is going to a number of local libraries in the area which are distributing glasses for free.
Park who’s been taking photos of Comet 12p Pons -Brooks says it may be viewable during totality on Monday.
Park says something already happening on the Sun will be observable during the partial phases of the eclipse.
During totality Park says the coronal effect of the eclipse could reveal more streamers and prominences than usual – evenly distributed around the eclipse disc.
Park urges you to make the effort to get to an area where the eclipse is total so you can be part of the wow factor.
Park is firm on this – saying three days before eclipse time if the forecast isn’t favourable – he’ll drive to somewhere in eastern Canada or to Texas to see the show of a lifetime.
