The Greater Napanee Fire Department wants to remind residents that Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Remember to “spring ahead” by changing your clocks and replacing your batteries!
myFM spoke with Dean Martin, Fire Prevention Officer, who told us why they remind us to replace our batteries at the same time as clock change.
GNFD recommends taking steps to maintain your home’s smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Install smoke alarms outside each sleeping area and on every home level, place a carbon monoxide alarm outside sleeping areas if your home has fuel-burning appliances, an attached garage, or a fireplace, test smoke alarms monthly using the test button, and ensure everyone in your household recognizes the alarm sounds and knows how to react.
Other tips include replacing alarms within the time frame as per the manufacturer’s instruction, make alarms sure it meets current standards once replaced, and have an escape plan that has two ways out of every room.
The GNFD believes reminding others can help prevent fire tragedies. Please take this simple step to keep your home safe.
For questions or concerns about smoke or carbon monoxide alarms, call the GNFD at 613-354-3351 or visit GreaterNapanee.com/fire-department.
