Tsi Tyónnheht Onkwawén:na is set to start building its new school and cultural center in early spring 2024, no later than April 1st.
NIACON from Niagara Falls will construct the Mohawk Language and Cultural Centre in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
The center, aiming to promote Mohawk language and culture, will include a teaching kitchen, art studio, and a space for gatherings up to 150 people.
Funding mainly comes from a $9.6 million Government of Canada grant, supplemented by $1 million from the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and community fundraising to cover additional costs.
It’s expected to be completed by fall 2025.
