The Lennox and Addington County OPP are investigating an incident where a vehicle hit two pedestrians in Tamworth.
On December 11, 2023, just before 7:00 p.m., police, paramedic services, and Stone Mills Township Fire and Rescue responded to a collision on Wheeler Street in Tamworth. A vehicle struck two pedestrians between Ottawa Street and Ballantra Drive. The road was closed off.
When the police arrived, the paramedics and fire department were already there, attending to the injured people.
The collision involved an SUV and a motorized wheelchair carrying a passenger. Both were heading northbound on Wheeler Street. The injured pedestrians were taken to the hospital by Paramedic Services. The man in the wheelchair had life-threatening injuries, and the woman riding on the wheelchair’s back was seriously injured. No charges have been made yet as the investigation is in its early stages.
OPP Technical Investigators and Collision Reconstructionists are aiding in the ongoing investigation. Wheeler Street remains closed while the investigation continues.
Investigators are seeking video recordings from doorbell cameras, dashcams, or any other recordings from the area around Wheeler Street where the incident occurred.
