What began as a simple traffic stop, ended in handgun and drugs related charges for three people from Napanee.
Early morning May 19th, Lennox and Addington OPP conducted a traffic stop where it was determined that one of the two passengers in the vehicle was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
During the interaction, police observed in plain sight what was believed to be a controlled substance and scales in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a hand gun, a prohibited 13 round magazine, two digital scales, a small bag and pieces of tinfoil with what was believed to be cocaine in them.
As a result of an investigation, 40-year-old Mario Catena of Greater Napanee was charged with:
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
36-year-old Paul Wilson of Greater Napanee with:
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
And 28-year-old Kortney Herrington of Greater Napanee with:
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
- Possession of an identity document
They were held pending a bail hearing.
