Attention parents of school-age children!
Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce has called on teachers’ unions to consider private mediation in their contract negotiations.
This move aims to secure new contracts before the start of the upcoming school year, preventing any potential work stoppages throughout the province, including in the Limestone District School Board.
The minister highlighted the success of private mediation in reaching an agreement with CUPE support staff last November, emphasizing its potential benefits for the current negotiations. However, Karen Littlewood, president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, suggests that it may be premature to consider this option, citing the lack of meaningful negotiations to date.
